Here are the morning papers for Saturday the 30th of August:
- Bryan Murray was very happy with the return he received for Andrej Meszaros, writes Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen. Murray says the play of Meszaros has “left a lot to be desired” over the past two years.
- In his Saturday notes column Eric Duhatschek tells us why NHL training camps open so late this season.
- The Bryan McCabe for Mike Van Ryn is expected to go through on Tuesday, writes Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun.
- Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa believes he is finally 100% healthy.
- The Blue Jackets have signed Maksim Mayorov to a three-year entry level contract.
- With so much demand to attend one more game at the Spectrum, the Flyers have added another pre-season game at their former home versus the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL.
- The Lightning are very excited about their Andrej Meszaros acquisition. (Writer’s note: I like the trade for Tampa Bay, but let’s not get crazy here. Meszaros is a good defenseman but he’s being spoken about in this article as if he is the best thing since sliced bread.) With this trade, Meszaros has become the most experienced member of the Lightning’s defense corps.
- Mats Sundin is going to play in a charity hockey game in Toronto. (Writer’s note: Aside from the fact that it is for a good cause, NO ONE CARES!)
