Moose start off road trip with big win over one of the top teams in the AHL defeating Rocket 5-4

Recap of the game.

The Moose kick off six games on the road out east as they try to get back on track after splitting their six games at home with three wins and three losses. They cannot afford to lose many more if they want to have any hope of qualifying for the playoffs. It will be a tougher task without Parker Ford and Chaz Lucius.

What adds to the level of difficulty is they begin their road trip in Laval against the top ranked (based on winning %) Rocket, a team coached by their former bench boss Pascal Vincent. This is the first time they will face him since he left the Moose organization to become an NHL assistant coach in Columbus in 2021-22.

Lineup news:

Up front Jets prospect Fabian Wagner came out for the recently recalled Ryan Chyzowski. For the fifth straight game the D pairs remains the same. And with the youngest goalie tandem in the AHL back together it was Domenic DiVincentiis getting the net.

Lines & D pairs:

Shaw– Toninato –Golder
Suess – King – Empey
AJF – JAD – Lambert
Liwiski – Zhilkin – Chyzowski

Sautner – Salomonsson
Phillips – Coghlan
Lundmark – Bauer

DiVincentiis

Notable:

The Moose opened the scoring as the captain Dominic Toninato got his own rebound and puts it into the back of the net which made it 1-0 on the power play. The Rocket struck back less than two minutes later as the Moose made a few miscues in the D zone which allowed the home team to tie the game.

Ben King became the third member of the Moose into double digits as his 10th of the season made it 2-1 for the visitors early in the 2nd period.

No assist for AJF but he does the heavy lifting on the third Moose goal of the evening but good work by Jaret Anderson-Dolan to get to the net. The puck deflects in off him after the Rocket attempt to clear it. Made it 3-1 Manitoba courtesy of JAD fourth goal of the year.

After seeing their two goal lead erased in the middle frame the Moose strike early in the 3rd as C.J. Suess finished off a Tyson Empey pass. Good work by Ben King along the wall to force the turnover. Made it 4-3 for Manitoba.

A perfectly timed pass by Jets prospect Brad Lambert to linemate Jaret Anderson-Dolan who redirects it home to make it a 5-3 lead for the Moose. That was JAD’s second goal of the game and Lambert adds to his team leading assist total with his 19th.

The Rocket were not going away easily as they made it a one goal deficit with the extra attacker and one minutes to go.

But Manitoba would hold on for the 5-4 win as they defeat their former coach Pascal Vincent.
