Lots of excitement building for this Moose team given the resources they have to start this season but without knowing how it would all fit together it was gonna be a tough test against the best team in the AHL last season. They were missing some of their top end talent but still the Rocket are a very good hockey team
Lineup news:
No changes to the Moose from the last couple of practices.
Moose lineup:
Di Giuseppe – JAD – Shaw
Fagemo – Zhilkin – Duehr
Wagner – Yager – Barlow
Empey – Conley –Vitelli
Clague – Heinola
Phillips – Salomonsson
Sautner – Bauer
DiVincentiis
Notable:
Just 2:32 into the game Brayden Yager scored his first pro goal on his first shift. Great shot by the Jets prospect. (Here’s a cleaner version of the goal).
Kevin Conley shows why it’s a good idea to listen to the fans and “shoot the puck” as he catches the Rocket netminder off guard to give the Moose a 2-0 lead.
As I was watching the game I couldn’t help but reflect on the fact that this team, as stacked as it was for tonight’s game, could also have Brad Lambert, Nikita Chibrikov, Parker Ford and David Gustafsson.
The Moose retake their two goal lead as Walker Duehr takes a great pass by Jets prospect Elias Salomonsson, stays onside and then gets a home town bounce for his first in Antlers.
Doesn’t matter how they go in, it’s just that they did. At least I suspect that’s what Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin was thinking as he adds some insurance for the Moose to make it 4-1.
Throughout the game Jets goalie prospect Domenic DiVincentiis was making a ton of great saves including this acrobatic stop.
With his dad in attendance Jets prospect Brayden Yager takes the first of what will be many 3 Star skates after being named 3rd Star of the Game in the Moose 4-1 win over the Rocket.
A sensational performance from Jets goalie prospect Domenic DiVincentiis who finished the game with 36 saves on 37 shots. He’s named 1st Star of the Game as the Moose open the season with a 4-1 win.
