Moose earn split against Canucks with 5-3 win

After fighting back a few times on Saturday but ultimately dropping the first ever meeting between the Moose and Canucks the home side was looking for a weekend split of their series with Abbotsford.

It would continue to be a challenge given all the players who are currently up with the big club but as we saw last week against Chicago this team is capable of winning when they are undermanned.

Lineup news:

No changes from Saturday’s roster.

Moose lineup:

Malott – Meireles – Egle
Polei – Maier – Jones
Caron – Alfaro – Burgess
Langan – Boland – Pelton-Byce

Oligny – Lundmark
Shaw – Nogier
Bourque – Stewart

Holm
Desorsiers

Noteworthy:

Jeff Malott finished the game with two goals which gives him 20 points (12G 8A) in 34 games. Coincidentally he finished last season with 20 points (14G 6A) in 34 games.

After a career low shooting percentage last season Nicholas Jones has rebounded nicely in 2021-22 and two goals today certainly helped that effort. He matched his points total from last season in nine fewer games.

With two assists Greg Meireles now leads the Moose in that category with 16.

Portage la Prairie’s Dean Stewart picked up two assists in the game which were his first and second ever points in the AHL.

Haralds Egle had a goal and assist in the game which gives him two goals and five assists in his last five contests. His goal today equaled his goal total from last season in five fewer games.

Goalie Arvid Holm picked up the win which improves his record to 7-3-1-1.

Manitoba improves to 23-11-2-1 on the season as they split the series with Abbotsford. They currently sit 2nd in the Central.
