Moose drop game on late penalty to Wolves but Liam Malmquist scores first pro goal

The Moose are playing out the string and were set to wrap up their season schedule against their rival Wolves this afternoon in Winnipeg. We are starting to see new faces joining the lineup as usually happens as the regular season winds down.

Lineup news:

Simon Lundmark skated in warm-up but he didn’t play in the game. It was the pro debut for former Ohio State captain pro debut for Patrick Guzzo.

Lines & D pairs:

AJF– Toninato –Shaw
Wagner – Zhilkin – Lambert
Malmquist – Suess– King
Liwiski-Guzzo-Empey

Barteuax–Coghlan
Phillips – Salomonsson
Anhorn – Bauer

DiVincentiis

Notable:

Moment of silence here in Winnipeg at the Moose game on the seventh anniversary of the Humboldt Broncos tragedy.

Moose thought they had an early one but after review it’s called no goal. Not surprised as the ref blew the whistle early. About four minute later the Wolves took advantage of a miscue to make it a 1-0 game for the visitors.

Jets prospect Fabian Wagner continues to earn more and more ice time making smart plays.

A giveaway in the neutral zone, a missed hit and the Wolves go on the attack. They get three shots before Ryan Suzuki gives the visitors a 2-0 lead which he celebrates with a snow angel.

Early in the 3rd Mason Shaw, who was the player who had scored the disallowed goal in the first minute of  the 1st period, scored again early but this one counted and the Moose deficit was cut in half courtesy of his 16th goal of the season.

And just like that the game was all tied up courtesy of the first pro goal for Liam Malmquist (and also won everyone in the building free pancakes) in just his third game in antlers.

Two penalties called against Manitoba as time wound down. They killed the first but allowed the game-winning goal with 55 seconds left in the 3rd.

The game ended 3-2 in favour of the visitors.

Multi-point game:

None.
