Moose cruise to a 6–1 win over the Wild, take 2–1 edge in unusual four-game series

Recap of the game.

The Moose returned to Manitoba having gone 2-1-0 during the past three-game road trip which included them splitting a two-game set last weekend in Iowa. Continuing the theme of unusual scheduling this season (having already played the Stars four straight times, and the Wolves five times in seven games) they will play two more against Iowa this weekend in Winnipeg for another unusual four game set.

Lineup news:

Goalie Thomas Milic got back into the net for the first time in three weeks after being called up to the NHL where he made his NHL debut. The only other changes were Tyson Empey came in for Jets prospect Colby Barlow who is day-to-day after sustaining a lower-body injury last Sunday and Elias Salomonsson, also recently returned from the Jets, came in for Ethan Frisch on the backend.

Moose lineup:

Empey – Zhilkin – JAD
Lambert – Yager – Fagemo
Di Giuseppe – Ford – Chibrikov
Shaw – Gustafsson – Duehr

Sautner – Salomonsson
Phillips – Clague
Heinola – Bauer

Milic

Notable:

“Obviously he knows his role and he does it pretty well so we’re just gonna have to be aware when he’s on the ice and we’ll hold our own with that.” That was Tyson Empey from today on his former teammate with the Moose, Mark Liwiski. Sure enough they dropped the gloves 6 seconds in.

Walker Duehr stayed hot as he scored his team leading 9th goal of the season to make it a 1-0 game for the Moose.

Thomas Milic is not a foodie. Sorry I meant Thomas Milic with a breakaway save on Jean-Luc Foudy.

What a saucer pass by Walker Duehr who feeds the captain Mason Shaw. He buried his 5th of the season to make it a 2-0 game for the Moose against his old team.

Pride of Flin Flon, Manitoba Ashton Sautner was honoured for playing in his 500th AHL game (last game).

Brad Lambert fired home his second of the season on the power play to give the Moose against 3-0 lead in the 1st period.

Prospect Danny Zhilkin caught with a hard hit. He went down the tunnel but later returned to the game.

Second fight of the game for Tyson Empey who gets tossed afterwards. Certainly made it worthwhile.

Isaak Phillips got his third of the season making it 4-0 for the Moose. He was trying to feed Walker Duehr who was alone in front. Manitoba had a 10-1 shot edge at that point in the middle frame.

The captain, Mason Shaw got his second of the game against his old team to make it a 5-0 contest for the Moose in the 3rd.

Brad Lambert ripped this shot off the crossbar as he almost get his second of the game.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan makes it a 6-1 game after he finishes off this play. Heck of a move by Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin to start it off.

The Moose improve to 14-9-2-0 on the season which keeps them in 2nd place in the Central. To put this season into perspective compared to last year they didn’t get their 14th win during the 2024-25 campaign until February 12th (two months later).

Multi-point game:

Walker Duehr 1G 2A
Ville Heinola 3A
Mason Shaw 2G
David Gustafsson 2A
