The Moose lead over the Admirals was cut down to three points after Milwaukee won on Saturday which made today’s afternoon game against the Stars critical if Manitoba wanted to add some distance between them and their 5th place pursuers. As well a win in the regular season home finale would mean that the home team would climb within one point of 3rd place Texas (with a game in hand).
Lineup news:
Pair of Jets prospects came off the roster today as Brayden Yager and Nikita Chibrikov were recalled up to the NHL.

Team Season Awards:
Tyrel Bauer cleaned up ahead of the game as he picked up three different awards:
– EPRA Julian Klymkiw Community Service Award (second straight year)
– Fan Favourite Award
– Richard Bue Ultimate Teammate Award winner (2nd straight year)
Notable:
Jets prospects Colby Barlow was even or behind three Stars at the Moose blueline but he gets on his horse and scored a backhand to open the scoring here in Winnipeg.
Barlow spoke to us earlier this week about wanting the puck more now that’s he’s more comfortable in his rookie pro season. Made a move on the PP and then uses his shot to generate a chance.
I have no clue how this puck ended up on the stick of Phil Di Giuseppe but he gets a short runway breakaway chance which somehow doesn’t end up in the Stars net as he puts it up too high. Fooled the goal judge as light went off. Or he just had confidence in PDG.
Barlow’s best asset is his shot and the Jets prospect is starting to find some time and space for himself so he can get chances like this one.
Lots of physicality in this one as teams ramp up for playoffs with Walker Duehr delivering a nice backend check.
Big boy tilt between Tyson Empey and Curtis McKenzie after the Moose forward delivered a big hit.
Jets prospect Jacob Julien gets his second of the season as he redirects this shot by Isaak Phillips to give the Moose a 2-0 lead. Nice play by the rookie.
Shortly thereafter the Stars got within one courtesy of a 2 on 1 which made it a 2-1 game for the Moose.
The home team had numerous chances to add to their lead throughout the game including this shot by Walker Duehr that rang off the crossbar.
Tale as old as time. Manitoba had a chance to clear the puck. They do not. Stars make them pay by tying the game.
All tied to 2-2 after 40 minutes between the Moose and Stars with shots favouring the home team 31-22.
Relatively early in the 3rd, Jaret Anderson-Dolan and Samuel Fagemo with some nice work to give the Moose a 3-2 lead.
But just 45 seconds after the Moose took the lead as the visitors get a fortunate bounce and the captain of Texas ties the game.
Speaking of captain, Mason Shaw thought he gave the home team the lead but he rang it off the post. That’s third time this game they’ve hit iron. And then with 1 minute remaining in the final frame they had a flurry of chances in front but couldn’t secure a regulation win.
Manitoba controlled the puck for almost the first two minutes of OT and then ended extra time in thrilling fashion in the regular season home finale as Samuel Fagemo, who had to pick up his stick in the Stars end, before finishing off the tic-tac-toe play. Got the over 5500 here in Winnipeg to their feet as the Moose win 4-3.
With the win the Moose move within two points of the Stars for 3rd place in the Central (with a game in hand) and they also maintain their three point lead over the Admirals who also won today. Setting up to be an exciting final week of the regular season.
