After winning five of six games the Moose hit a bit of a snag losing both games in Texas last weekend before the team took off for a few days during the AHL All-Star break.
Lineup news:
It appeared based on warm-up that the only change would be the return of Walker Duehr to the lineup after missing five games. However, there was a late scratch for Brad Lambert who was scheduled to play. Jacob Julien was on the ice for warm-up so obviously something bothering 13.
Moose lineup:
Shaw – Gustafsson- Duehr
JAD – Zhilkin – Fagemo
Julien – Ford – Di Giuseppe
Barlow– Yager – Chibrikov
Heinola – Salomonsson
Phillips – Clague
Sautner – Bauer
Milic
Notable:
After the Wranglers came out with a 3-0 shot edge to start the game, the Moose began to take things over. It started with the home team getting the first goal of this game as Samuel Fagemo buried the pass by Isaak Phillips as the two attacked with speed to make it 1-0 for the home side with David Gustafsson also getting an apple.
At the midpoint of the opening period we saw a big play by AHL All-Star and Jets prospect Thomas Milic who gets in the way of this 2-0 chance to keep his team up by one goal.
Moose made it 2-0 courtesy of Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin who got his ninth of the season. After missing one earlier in the period where he had to flip his stick, this time he buried it.
Trio of Jets prospects get involved in this Moose goal as Nikita Chibrikov draws a penalty and gets the pass to Danny Zhilkin who gets it to Brayden Yager to make it 3-0. Unofficial assists to Domenic DiVincentiis & head equipment manager Cole Hillier who got Yager a new twig.
Samuel Fagemo is heating up as he scored a beauty to make it 4-0 for the Moose. He’s up to 13 goals on the season with his second of the game, which is good for Manitoba as he is expected to be a big part of the goal scoring on this team. Nice pass by Kale Clague.
Walker Duehr returns after missing five straight games and scores a beauty shorthand to put the Moose up 5-1 in the 3rd period. His 12th goal of the season and third shorthanded tally. Hell of a pass from captain Mason Shaw to spring him.
Another excellent game for the Manitoba penalty kill which went 3/3 this afternoon improving to 4th best PK in the AHL.
Moose win 5-1 with a Valentine’s Day victory over the Wranglers. Lots of contributions from across the board. With the win their record improves to 23-17-3-0 as they leapfrog back over the Stars into 3rd spot in the Central.
Multi-point game:
Samuel Fagemo 2G
Danny Zhilkin 1G 1A
Jaret Anderson-Dolan 2A
