Manitoba Moose Playoff Practice Report

Moose took practice downtown today.

The Moose moved downtown today as they continue to prepare for game 1 against the Admirals in Winnipeg on Friday night. After taking the day off on Tuesday.

Time between games to heal:

A number of players have expressed frustration with the gap between the final regular season game and the first game of the Calder Cup playoffs for the Moose. It will be 12 days between the game in Chicago and game one on Friday night in Winnipeg. One player not upset with the time is Jets prospect dman Declan Chisholm, who is recovering from a high-ankle sprain suffered on March 19th. Asked if he would have been ready to go when the regular season ended the mobile defenceman said he doesn’t think he would have been ready to go had playoffs started when the regular season ended. Said

“The extra 12 days was huge. I could start getting physical in practice. Just a full week of contact practice is huge for me so I could get ready for the first playoff game cause it’s a whole other game in the playoffs like you can see in the NHL. It’s just constant hitting and aggressive play so I definitely wanted to test it out in some high level practices.”.

Chisholm isn’t yet “cleared to play” according to Moose head coach Mark Morrison who wanted to get the medical report after practice, although he did indicate that “he looks 100% to me”.

Looking ahead to the Whiteout:

Count Declan Chisholm as someone excited to take part in the Winnipeg Whiteout:

“The Whiteout is just nuts. The city is so alive. Definitely gets you excited for our playoff run….all the boys are pumped watching the Whiteout”.

Reichel on the mend:

On Monday we reported that Kristian Reichel was scheduled to have season ending surgery after suffering an injury in the first game of the final regular season road trip back on back on April 11th. He was sitting watching his teammates this morning while wearing a sling. Tough news for the hard-working winger.

Revenge on the brain:

Captain Jimmy Oligny knows facing the Admirals isn’t like just facing any other team. They battled them 17 times in the 2021-22 season (12 regular season games and five playoff contests) and with Milwaukee winning the series, Manitoba is looking for some payback.

“It’s a little personal almost. We want to get back at them. Last year I thought we deserved so much better. I don’t think the pressure is on is. It’s more, they won last year so it’s for us to go and grab it.”

Starting goalie is:

Asked if he knows who his starting goalie is for game 1 bench boss Mark Morrison said “I do not…well we do not have many here. We’ll wait and see.” Both Arvid Holm and Oskari Salminen are up with the Jets. Right now they have Evan Cormier and Joe Murdaca.
