Manitoba Moose let a point slip away as they fail to secure 3rd with shootout loss to Wolves

This game didn’t really matter for Chicago other than winning meant keeping their long-time Manitoba rival from securing a better playoff spot. A win would mean the Moose would overcome the Stars for 3rd place in the Central with two games to go.

Lineup news:

Lukas Gustafsson and Tyson Empey came out with Alfons Freij and Davis Burnside coming back in.

Moose lineup:

Shaw-Ford-Duehr
JAD-Zhilkin-Fagemo
Yoder-Julien-Burnside
Barlow-Wahlin-Di Giuseppe

Phillips-Clague
Sautner-Barteaux
Anhorn-Freij

Milic

Notable:

Jets prospect Colby Barlow starting to heat up as he has goals in back-to-back games for the first time this season and three in his last six. He tied the game for the Moose.

Also notable fellow prospect Alfons Freij picked up his first AHL point with the primary assist.

Pretty bad call costs Jets prospect Colby Barlow his first ever multi goal game as a pro. Parker Ford never contacts Wolves goalie nor does he impede ability to make save. I understand the AHL is a developmental league for officials as well but how is this goalie interference?

After the Wolves took a 2-1 lead with a deflection goal, the Moose tied things up three minutes later with a lucky one. Walker Duehr’s 17th of the season comes with 20 seconds left in the first frame.

Nothing was solved after 60 minutes which meant the Moose were going to OT for the third straight game. And Jaret Anderson-Dolan to Samuel Fagemo almost connected for the second straight game in OT but no dice early in extra time.

The Moose and Wolves went to a shootout where Chicago scored twice and Manitoba didn’t. Moose outshot them 29-21 but went 1/5 on PP.

Manitoba gains a point to get to within one point of 3rd place Texas with two games left but they leave a big point on the table. They are four points ahead of the Admirals who have a game in-hand. Moose need just two points to clinch 4th place.

Multi-point game:

None.
