After back-to-back weekends against the top team in the North (Laval) and top team in the AHL/Central (Grand Rapids) where Manitoba picked up three wins in four games the question is will they be able to bring in that same level against Rockford this afternoon.
Lineup news:
David Gustafsson was good to go after dealing with an illness earlier in the week. Walker Duehr is dealing with an LBI which presumably is keeping him out for a second straight game.
Moose lineup:
Shaw – Gustafsson- Chibrikov
Lambert – Ford – Di Giuseppe
Julien– Yager – JAD
Barlow – Zhilkin – Fagemo
Heinola – Barteaux
Anhorn– Clague
Sautner – Bauer
Milic
Notable:
Didn’t take long. The captain opens the scoring as Mason Shaw got his 12th just 16 seconds into the game. Gives him team lead in goals. Good attack by both Nikita Chibrikov and David Gustafsson.
Thomas Milic with a pair of stops in quick succession to get him into the game early in this contest.
Former Moose captain Dominic Toninato, now with the IceHogs, recognized with a warm welcome here in Winnipeg by the fans. He spent fives seasons in this province playing 104 games for the Jets and 152 games for the Moose (also played two playoff games for Jet/five for Moose).
Nikita Chibrikov that close to giving the home team a two goal lead. Nice pass by the captain Mason Shaw but 19 was trying to shoot as he was down on all fours.
Moose were thinking offence on this sequence and it burns them as they fly the zone but the puck stayed in it. Jets draft pick Dmitri Kuzmin with the primary assist setting up the game tying goal.
The never quit Moose score with 23 seconds left in the opening period to retake the lead. Jaret Anderson-Dolan fires this one home for his 7th of the season. First point as a pro for Jets prospect Jacob Julien and heck of a pass by Dylan Anhorn.
Jets prospect Jacob Julien at the end of a long shift goes in on the forecheck and comes away with the puck to set up a chance for the Moose.
A good start to the middle frame sees the Moose add to their lead. Jaret Anderson-Dolan gets his 8th of the season (second of the game) to make it 3-1 for the home team. Second pro point (and second of the game) for Jets prospect Jacob Julien who got it over to Brayden Yager.
Jaret Anderson-Dolan had two good chances in the final four minutes of the 2nd to score his hat-trick goal. Both times good sticks from the IceHogs have prevented him from converting the chances. Great stretch pass by Dylan Anhorn who is having a good afternoon.
The Moose are celebrating Minor Hockey Weekend here in Manitoba and CLC is full of kids in their team jerseys celebrating the sport at the game. And they even got a 3rd period wave going.
Good hand/eye coordination from Parker Ford who gives the Moose a 4-1 lead. That’s his fourth of the season. Assists to Brad Lambert and Phil Di Giuseppe.
Good little sequence by Jets prospect Nikita Chibrikov who creates a couple of chances for the home team.
Another great chance for Jaret Anderson-Dolan for the hat-trick but he chooses the unselfish route and then runs out of real estate. He’s had himself a game.
Manitoba continue to roll after taking three of four from Laval/Grand Rapids (both 1st place teams) the previous two weekends, they open this set with a 4-1 win over Rockford. Excellent team win for the Moose as they improve to 21-15-3-0.
Multi-point game:
Jaret Anderson-Dolan 2G
Jacob Julien 2A
