Notable:
In a game against the best team in the AHL the attention to detail for Manitoba was going to be critical and just 58 seconds into the game they gave up the opening goal of it as Laval took advantage of a miscue in the neutral zone.
Moose were physical as Tyrel Bauer just after a successful penalty kill laid the body with this big check.
Jets D prospect Elias Salomonsson (2022 2nd) pulling the Frank Costanza as he stops short causing the Rocket player to cruise on past him.
Former Moose head coach Pascal Vincent was welcomed back to Winnipeg by the organization where he spent five seasons as bench boss of the AHL club of Manitoba as well as the five seasons before that as an assistant coach with the Jets.
Another mistake by Manitoba led to the second goal by the Rocket in the 2nd period.
Jets prospect Fabian Wagner (2022 6th) has 7G in his last 11 games and he turns on the rockets and almost gets a beauty on this play. His family is in Winnipeg from Sweden watching him play live in the AHL for the very first time.
It was hard to know if fans are more pumped because Moose captain Dominic Toninato scored his 17th of the season bringing the home team within two or because they won free pancakes. Given they are still chanting about wanting free pancakes I’m going with the latter over the former.
Dominic Toninato scored his second goal of the game which was his 18th of the season to cut deficit to one with under a minute to go in the game. He’s one back of his career high. Assists to Jets prospects Danny Zhilkin and Elias Salomonsson.
Moose comeback falls short as the league leading Rocket take it by a final score of 3-2. Manitoba down to seven games left and trailing Rockford by 13. If they don’t win tomorrow then it’s officially done.
Multi-point game:
Dominic Toninato 2G
