Earlier today Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press reported that restricted free agent Jack Roslovic won’t attend the start of Jets training camp according to Roslovic’s agent Claude Lemieux. Now this isn’t much of a surprise given that when players don’t have a contract they usually don’t attend team activities. This isn’t dissimilar to what the Jets dealt with with Laine and Connor ahead of the 2019-20 training camps.
Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was asked three times about his second 2015 1st rounder during today’s his pre-training camp media availability. As he usually does he didn’t say much about the current state of negotiations. Sean Reynolds of Sportsnet did indicate in his question that negotiations between the two sides didn’t begin until last week and that the Roslovic camp may have been “upset” about that.
Late this evening Pierre LeBrun of TSN tweeted this:
Roslovic’s agent Claude Lemieux tells me tonight his client has asked for a trade. So we’ll see where this goes…
Of course Roslovic is an RFA without arbitration rights so he really doesn’t really have any leverage in this situation aside from sitting out. Also worth noting that Roslovic wouldn’t be the first player to request a trade and still end up playing for the team he requested a trade from.
For now we will have to wait and see how this plays out. Stay tuned to find out.
