Before Jets practice got underway on Wednesday there were only two question marks being the health of captain Adam Lowry and winger Morgan Barron. Both players had been listed as week-to-week by head coach Scott Arniel before the 4 Nations tournament got underway. Lowry was injured in a game in Utah back on January 20th while Barron was hurt on January 28th in Montreal.
We got wind on Tuesday that Lowry would be skating during an optional that afternoon with his teammates and we learned yesterday from the Jets bench boss that his captain had worn yellow, non-contact during that skate. Number 17 ditched the non-contact for a regular jersey on Wednesday afternoon and all indications are he should be ready to play after missing eight straight on Saturday in St. Louis.
Now we knew from the last update on February 4th that Barron was “a little father behind” Lowry so it wasn’t a surprise that he wasn’t on the ice with his teammates at hockey for all centre although we would learn via Mark Scheifele that Barron had skated on his own earlier that day.
When we heard from Scott Arniel on Wednesday he had this to say when asked for a Barron update:
“He had a little trouble getting back here. He wasn’t coming from Hawaii or Florida. He was coming from Halifax and he got delayed like three days. He’s back. He missed yesterday so he got on the ice today for the first time.”
Will he skate with the full group?
“He’ll be IR again tomorrow and then we’ll take it from there. He’s got some conditioning to do too.”
So number 36 still seems at least a little ways away.
