The Jets hit the ice for the first time today as they shake off the rust from a bit of time away from the rink during the Olympic break. The biggest questions marks from a health perspective coming into today was regarding Neal Pionk, Colin Miller and Haydn Fleury who were all listed as being out week-to-week ahead of the Olympic break.
When we watched skate at hockey for all centre two (Pionk & Fleury) of the three were skating but both were in yellow, non-contact uniforms.
Following practice head coach Scott Arniel was asked for an update on the trio. He indicated:
“Colin skated yesterday, took the day off today. Get a feel for it, get him back out tomorrow. He’ll IR skate. The other two, was kinda putting them both in yellow jerseys to get out there. Both feel real good. Obviously, Fleur is probably a lot father behind on conditioning but it was great to see him. And Neal, that’s just, those injuries finally get a chance to heal up a little bit more. Neal being in that colour just so that he doesn’t by mistake get run over or something happens. Hopefully P for sure maybe when we go out on the road trip, maybe Fleur but we’ll just take that day-to-day.”
So it sounds like when the team gets going on their west coast road trip that just Neal Pionk is likely to be an option to play. Of course we’ll just have to wait and see how the rest of this week goes but for now that’s the latest on the trio of injured defencemen.
It's almost like day 1 of a mini training camp during the Olympic break.
