It has not been an easy off-season for Steve Mason

Here’s all you need to know about the most trying offseason of Steve Mason’s young career: He and his father have used the same cane.

The Blue Jackets’ 20-year-old goaltending prospect had knee surgery April 18. His dad, Bill, 50, nearly died from a blood clots in his lungs June 16 after being hospitalized for pneumonia.

Experience has taught the baby-faced goalie how quickly a deflected puck can change directions. Until recently, he had no idea how fast life could do the same.

Clearly this summer has put hockey into perspective for Mason.  We are glad his father is heading in the right direction.
