Groulx named coach of Rochester (AHL)

From Steve Gorten of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:

Groulx led the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to three league title the past six years, including this past season when Gatineau was 43-19-6 record.

Panthers’ general manager Jacques Martin described Groulx, no relation to Panthers’ goaltending coach Pierre Groulx, as “very similar” to new Panthers’ coach Peter DeBoer, a former junior hockey coach.

Groulx obviously has professional coaching aspirations because he turned down a chance at coaching the Canadian juniors at the WJHC in the winter to take this position with Rochester.

The Moose head to B.C. today where they will begin four games on the road starting on Friday with the Canucks (of Abbotsford).

Their lineup will be bolstered by the addition of Dominic Toninato who passed through waivers on Wednesday.

The Jets take their act on the road starting with a game tomorrow night in St. Louis against the Blue.

The Moose will be in Abbotsford for a practice on Thursday as they get ready to kick off four away from Manitoba.
