Courtesy of their 3-2 victory the Jets kick off the road trip on the right skate and improve to 43-25-4 on the season and have now won three straight.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.

Gameplay:

– Pretty uninteresting opening 10 minutes;
– Kevin Hayes finished off a Kyle Connor rush to open the scoring;
– Just over a minute later Kyle Connor got his 28th goal of the season on the Power Play to make it 2-0 Jets;
– A few minutes later the Kings got within one courtesy of Sean Walker as they got rewarded for all of their pressure;
– The opening period would end with Jets up 2-1, shots were 8-6 in favour of Kings;
– The Jets outshot the Kings 7-1 to start the middle frame;
– But it would be L.A. on the power play who would strike first to tie the game (Dustin Brown);
– Tyler Myers would give the Jets a 3-2 lead on a 2 on 1 in which he used Patrik Laine as a decoy;
– The third period would end with the Jets up 3-2, outshooting the Kings 12-7 (18-15 overall for Wpg).
– The Jets held the Kings without a shot for just over 16 minutes;
– Jets outshot the Kings 10-2 in final frame (28-17 shot edge for Wpg) and held on for the 3-2 win.

Notable:

For the first time in his career Jacob Trouba hits 40 points (6G 34A).

Blake Wheeler got his 68th assist on the season. That ties the number of assists he had all of last season (81 games) in game 72.

For the third time in his career Tyler Myers has scored nine goals and first time he has hit that number since 2015-16. His career high of 11 goals was set in his rookie season back in 2009-10.

Central Standings:

1. Jets 90 points (72 games)
2. Predators 87 points (73 games)
3. Blues 82 points (72 games)
4. Stars 80 points (72 games)

Coach Maurice:  Holding the Kings to 17 shots.  Did he like the way they handled the game?  Confidence shown by Tyler Myers to shoot on the 2 on 1.  Faceoff wins.  One goal victories.  What makes the Jets a top level team?  Return of Matt Hendricks to the lineup.  On Brossoit facing just a few shots.
