Game 61: Jets 6 Golden Knights 3 post-game recap

Post-game from the Jets dressing room as well as from Coach Maurice.

Insider T Mobile Arena

The Jets picked up a much needed victory as they improve to 37-20-4 on the season thanks to their 6-3 win over the Golden Knights. Winnipeg is back in 1st place.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.

Game Play:

– Jets scored quickly 56 seconds into the 1st (and then again 32 seconds later);
– Vegas got one back late in the opening frame;
– Golden Knights tied it up in the middle part of the 2nd period;
– Much like the opening period the middle frame saw the Jets score twice quickly but at the end of the period;
– Laine and Lowry scored 27 seconds apart to regain the two goal lead;
– Vegas scored quickly to make it a one goal game but that’s as close as they would come;
– Laine scored his second of the game and Copp had an empty netter to seal the deal.

Notable:

– Nikolaj Ehlers scored in his first game back after missing 20 games;
– Patrik Laine breaks his goalless streak not once but twice after going 15 games without a goal;
– Adam Lowry also broke his goalless streak (19 games);
– Blake Wheeler picked up 2A which put him above the 70 point mark for the fourth straight season;
– With his 3A Jacob Trouba hit a new career high for points (34) and also hits the 30 assist mark for the first time in his career.
– Paul Maurice 685th regular-season win passed Pat Quinn (684) for sole possession of eighth place all-time wins list.

Coach Maurice:  To what did he attribute that fast start?  What is the value to getting Laine scoring again?  On the reaction from the team when Laine scoring.  What did he think of the top line 5 on 5?  Did Ehlers spark the team?  Sense of relief to get a win inside T-Mobile Arena?
