Game 6: Winnipeg Jets 4 St. Louis Blues 2 post-game recap

Recap, highlights and post-game interviews.

Winnipeg win it 4-2 over St. Louis as they have a modest win streak of two games to improve to 3-3-0.

Notable:

Before the game the Jets had ceremony for the Toba Centre and there were big cheers for Duke the dog as the Jets honoured the before puck drop. Adam Lowry, who is working with them just presented them with a cheque for $50,000.00.

With tonight’s game Nikolaj Ehlers moved into sole possession of 5th on the all-time games played list with 529 moving one game past Dustin Byfuglien.

It took almost four years but David Gustafsson has his second NHL goal as the 2018 2nd rounder potted the first goal of the game for Winnipeg and looked like the guy who led the Jets in pre-season goals. An excellent pass from Cole Perfetti.

Just 18 seconds later Mason Appleton had his second of the year to give the Jets a 2-0 lead. It’s signifcant that Appleton is already at two goals in six games given he had five in 41 last season.

Winnipeg looked like they were on cruise control with a 7-1 shot edge (plus the two goals) in the middle frame but penalty trouble allowed St. Louis to get back within one.

Kyle Connor scored his fourth goal of the season to make it 3-1 and while Nate Schmidt was the only player who earned an assist on the play credit to Mark Scheifele for driving hard to the net and setting up a decoy situation that caused some confusion for Blues goalie Jordan Binnington.

Winnipeg would end it courtesy of Morgan Barron‘s empty netter after Mark Scheifele did some good work to get the puck and set him up for his second of the season.
