Game 6 of pre-season post-game recap: Oilers 5 Jets 3

A snooze fest in the 1st saw each team score once on just four shots apiece.  Not exactly a barn burner although CJ Suess did get rewarded for his good hand/eye coordination by batting one out of the air to open the scoring.

The Jets had a better middle frame outshooting the Oilers 12-7 and after going down by a goal on the power play, scoring twice (Poolman & Bourque) to take a 3-2 lead into the final frame.

The 3rd period saw the Oilers tie the game when Saskatchewan product Ethan Bear put home a rebound.  With Anthony Bitetto in the penalty box Tomas Jurco scored his second goal of the game as he outmuscled Dmitry Kulikov and then put the puck up and over Connor Hellebuyck to make it a 4-3 game.  Bear would tally again on a slap shot which appeared to catch Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck by surprise to give the Oilers a 5-3 lead which they’d hold onto for the remainder of the period.

Tucker Poolman

Coach Maurice:  How would he describe the camp that Tucker Poolman has had?  Poolman persevering through adversity.  What are his biggest strengths?  On the nine goals that Hellebuyck has given up…any concerns? Does he want to get Hellebuyck another start?  What has he liked about Luoto through this camp?  His blocking shots.  What does he see Poolman’s role starting the season?  What stood out for him tonight?  Can Vile Heinola handle the physical game?  On Jets D stepping up at the blue line.
