The Jets comeback falls short in Dallas as they lose 4-2 and the win streak ends at four. Their record falls to 31-15-2 as they head into the Player & All-Star break still atop the Central.
For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.
Pre-game warm up:
Cam Schilling took the skate and with Josh Morrissey having skipped morning skate you have to wonder about the health of 44. However Schilling ended up being a scratch which means whomever was not 100% was good to go.
Game Play:
– The game was almost all Dallas for the first 40 minutes as they held a 3-0 lead and a shot edge of 27-9
– 3rd period was a different animal as Brendan Lemieux drove the net to make it a two goal Stars lead;
– 21 seconds later Kyle Connor narrowed it to one goal off a nifty pass by Blake Wheeler;
– The Jets opened things up which gave the Stars numerous chances which Hellebuyck saved (for the most part);
– A late power play saw Seguin tip it past a screened Hellebuyck to make it a 4-2 game.
Notable:
– Kyle Connor is even-Steven as he scores his 19th goal to match his 19 assists;
– Connor’s 19th goal of the season was the 100th point of his NHL career (52 goals and 48 assists in 144 games).
– Brendan Lemieux has goals in consecutive games
– In Lemieux’s first 30 games this season he has 3 goals, in games 31 & 32 he has 3 goals;
– Mason Appleton has points in back-to-back games for the first time in his NHL career;
– The Moose gave away Appleton mini-bobbleheads at today’s game.

Coach Maurice: Assessment of the first 40 minutes. Why did the Stars have the advantage in the first 40 minutes? The mileage they got out of Tyler Myers. On the power play calls against. Where did that start come from? Happy with Hellebuyck’s game going into the break?
