Game 42: Jets 7 Avalanche 4 post-game recap

The Jets kicked off the second half of the season with a big 7-4 win over Central Division rival Colorado in game number 42 to improve to 27-13-2 this season.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.

Gameplay:

– The Avs put a lot of pressure on the Jets to open the game thanks to an early PP but Hellebuyck stood tall;
– Brandon Tanev took a Kulikov feed up the ice, fed it beautifully to Mathieu Perreault who made a nifty move (1-0 Jets);
– Kyle Connor gave the Jets a two goal cushion as he put home his own rebound off a nice Wheeler pass on the PP;
– Avs got one back on the power play to close out the 1st with the Jets leading 2-1 and Colorado leading 14-7 in shots;
– 3:22 into the middle frame Blake Wheeler finished off a beauty give & go shorthanded with Scheifele to make it 3-1;
– Three minutes later, again on the PP, the Jets added to their lead with Little finishing off a perfect Myers pass to make it 4-1;
– But don’t count the Avs out as they scored twice in 1:33 to pull within one goal;
– Shots were 15-7 in that period giving Colorado a 29-14 edge after 40 minutes;
– Colorado started the 3rd on the power play but were unable to capitalize on it;
– But the Jets scored first as Andrew Copp scored a greasy one to make it 5-3 (and he had quite the post goal celebration);
– Midway through the final frame Blake Wheeler spotted a wide open Mark Scheifele who scored on his own rebound to make it 6-3;
– With the net empty for the Avs they got one back as Landeskog tipped one past Hellebuyck to make it 6-4;
– But Blake Wheeler eventually found Jacob Trouba who scored into the empty net to make it 7-4 for Winnipeg.
– Shots ended up 41-21 in favour of Colorado.
