The Jets fell to the Predators 3-0 in one of the more exciting scoreless periods of hockey I can remember to open a hockey game. That back and forth flow was curtailed in a penalty filled middle frame which saw the Jets take (and successfully kill) off six penalties. If you include the two the Jets took in the first period it was eight straight penalties and nine in total (they killed them all off) called against Winnipeg. Down just a goal after 40 they were unable to mount a comeback and despite the penalty kill success they fall to 2-2 on the season.
For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.
Notable:
– Kyle Connor’s three-game goal scoring streak ends;
– Blake Wheeler and Nikolaj Ehlers both dropped the gloves and fought during the same shift;
– Connor Hellebuyck was a difference maker in the 2nd period making 12 saves on 13 shots and six PKs.

Coach Maurice: How does he manage the bench when the penalties are called against them like that? How does he break down the penalties that were called? Can he recall a game with eight straight penalties against? Thoughts on the Jets 5 on 5 play? Challenges with puck management. On the emotion shown by his players (i.e Ehlers dropping the gloves). Can this game be a rallying point? Did he say much going into the 3rd period?
