Game four of this four-game road trip ends with one of the most remarkable hockey games we’ve witnessed since the relocation of NHL hockey back to Winnipeg as Patrik Laine’s five goals led the way right to a 8-4 win over the Blues and helped improve the Jets to 13-7-2 on the season.
For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.
Notable:
– craziest 2nd period ever as the Jets took a 2-2 game and scored four straight to make it 6-2;
– this was largely accomplished thanks to Patrik Laine’s three goals in the middle frame;
– Combined with the goal in the 1st and one in the 3rd Patrik Laine becomes first Jets 2.0 to score 5.
Numbers:
– Laine went from 14 goals before puck drop to being the NHL leading goal scorer with 19;
– this was the 7th hat trick of his career (Jets have 15 since relocation);
– becomes first player since Wayne Gretzky (1984) to score five goals on five shots;
– In addition to helping his team win he may have won one Winnipegger (Christopher Haley) a million dollars.
– the Jets second line was on fire tnt (Laine 5G, Connor 4A, Little 4A);
– since being put together (5 games ago) the 2nd line is on fire (Laine 11G 1A, Connor 2G 7A, Little 1G, 1G 7A).

Coach Maurice: How does he put the performance of 29 into words? On how the good the 2nd line has been. Did the trip to Finland really galvanize Laine? Mentally what does it mean to be able to put the last game out of their minds thanks to tonight’s game? On how the Jets came out to start the 2nd. On putting down the narrative that the 2nd line didn’t work. Any issues health wise from the game?
