Atlantic Division
- The Devils have split up Zach Parise and Travis Zajac, writes Mark Everson. Yann Danis may get the start tonight for New Jersey.
- The Islanders ran into the Henrik Lundqvist wall and played poor second and third periods, recaps Katie Strang.
- Wade Redden was not happy about being a healthy scratch last night, as Ales Kotalik was too. Larry Brooks goes at Redden for his listless play and the title of his article calls Redden a crybaby. On the ice, the Rangers responded to the challenge put forth by coach Tortorella and defeated the Islanders.
- “We’re going to have success if we do that each and every night,” said Flyers captain Mike Richards after a hard fought 3-2 shootout loss to Pittsburgh. The fact is, last night’s game was the team’s best performance in a month. Rich Hofmann says the last thing the Flyers need is to make a trade.
- With performances like last night, Marc-Andre Fleury should be a shoe-in for Team Canada, writes Dave Molinari. What’s the best rivalry that veteran Bill Guerin has been a part of? Sidney Crosby is perfect in shootouts this season.
Northeast Division
- Michael Ryder will find himself on a line with Marc Savard and Marco Sturm tonight. “Right now we hopefully need our guys to start producing at the rate we all think they should,” said coach Claude Julien about the need for his team’s snipers to get going.
- The talk continues that Paul Gaustad could find himself on Team USA in Vancouver this winter. The Sabres were not happy with the NHL’s decision to not suspend Jarkko Ruutu.
- Montreal lost their fifth game in a row last night, writes Pat Hickey. Kevin Mio of the Montreal Gazette talks about Guillaume Latendresse’s progress as a member of the Wild.
- Jesse Winchester is now the first line center between Daniel Alfredsson and Milan Michalek. Shean Donovan is one tough cookie. More injury news, as Nick Foligno is going to miss two weeks with a knee injury.
- Luke Schenn is checking back into the Leafs lineup tonight with speculation that Jeff Finger is coming out. Schenn is hoping he learned a lot in his time in the press box.
Southeast Division
- Ondrej Pavelec made 42 saves last night, many of the tremendous variety, as the Thrashers came back to beat the Stars in an exciting overtime tilt. Reports of Ilya Kovalchuk and the Thrashers being at an impasse are apparently false.
- Tim Gleason was back practicing for the Hurricanes yesterday, writes Javier Serna.
- The Panthers host the Hurricanes tonight in the first of back-to-back games.
- The Lightning is running out of time to start winning games, its most important players say. Meanwhile, it appears Victor Hedman has an ailing foot.
- Visiting Vancouver has brought the Olympics to the forefront of the Capitals’ minds, writes Corey Masisak. The less Karl Alzner thinks, the better. (Note: Registration required for Alzner article)
