For the second straight year, former Jets defenceman Dustin Byfuglien finished in the Top 30 at the Kenora Bass International.
As most fans of the big man know, fishing has long been one of Byfuglien’s biggest loves. Since retiring from the NHL, the Minnesotan has taken part in various fishing tournaments, including events on Lake of the Woods.
While at the Day 2 weigh-in, Byfuglien was asked about the Jets alumni game coming up in Winnipeg this October, and he had a little fun with the question.
When asked if he was playing in the game, Byfuglien jokingly replied, “What one?”
After being reminded about the October alumni game, he was told he might have to put the skates back on.
“If I’m not shooting ducks,” Byfuglien replied with a laugh.
He did say that his family is pretty excited about heading back to Winnipeg and seeing everyone again.
As for whether he’s in shape for the alumni game?
“Never was in shape!”
That brought a laugh from both Byfuglien and the interviewer.
“Never was in shape.”

As for the fishing, Byfuglien and his partner, Mike Reid of Sioux Narrows, finished 26th overall in the KBI. There were 133 teams competing in the tournament.
The duo brought in a three-day largemouth bass total of 48.34 lbs, finishing 5.86 lbs behind the team that took top spot on the leaderboard.
Not a bad weekend on the water for the man affectionately known as Big Buff.
