Former Jets and Moose dman Kale Clague signs in KHL with Avtomobilist

After another season spent exclusively in the AHL, Clague is headed overseas.

After spending three seasons in the Sabres organization, Kale Clague returned to Canada, signing a one-year deal with the Jets on July 1. It was a homecoming of sorts for the Regina-born defenceman, who returned to Manitoba after spending four seasons in Brandon with the Wheat Kings of the WHL.

A second-round pick of the Kings in 2016, Clague appeared in 94 NHL games with Los Angeles, Montreal, and Buffalo.

However, for the second straight season, he did not see any NHL action with the parent club. He spent the entire 2024-25 season with Rochester before playing exclusively with Manitoba in 2025-26. While he did receive a recall from Winnipeg in February, he did not appear in any games for the Jets.

Clague brought an offensive mindset to the ice during his time with the Moose finishing the season with nine goals and 18 assists for 27 points in 67 games as well as two assists in six playoff games. He reached the 300-game milestone in the AHL while wearing antlers. Another highlight of the season was the opportunity to play alongside Moose captain Mason Shaw, one of his best friends growing up.

It was reported today by Hockey News Hub, which is a go-to source for KHL news, that he has signed a two-year contract with Avtomobilist. Folks at Elite Prospects also reporting the signing.
