For second straight game Moose force OT and captain Dominic Toninato wins it in extra time (again) to defeat Senators 3-2 in OT

Recap of the game.

The Moose are trying to make things interesting coming into tonight’s game in Belleville having won two of three with just 24 games left in the schedule before puck dropped against the Senators. While Iowa sits just ahead of them (and they have three games in hand) if they want to catch the IceHogs then they need to string together wins (they have two games in hand on Rockford).

Lineup news:

The Moose task got more difficult with today’s recall of Jaret Anderson-Dolan up to the big club to give them some insurance in the Jets match against the Senators (of Ottawa). Of course with a trio of banged up played the baby Sens were also without some players this evening. In goal for Manitoba was Thomas Milic who was making his first start back with the Moose since January 22nd (he had thereafter been assigned to the ECHL). Also Brad Lambert returned to centre for first time in some time (played last eight games on the wing). Dylan Coghlan was a late scratch for the Moose as he was scheduled to play but instead it was Dylan Anhorn.

Lines & D pairs:

Shaw– Toninato –AJF
Golder – Lambert – Wagner
Suess – King – Empey
Liwiski – Zhilkin – Chyzowski

Sautner – Salomonsson
Phillips – Lundmark
Anhorn – Bauer

Notable:

Former Moose Wyatt Bongiovanni with the opening goal of the game against his old team. First game against them. He’s got 18 goals this season for the Senators which the Moose sure could use given their inability to score.

Jets prospect Brad Lambert tied the game on the power play with his 4th of the season. He’d gone 25 games without finding the back of the net (but he does have a boatload of assists).

With time winding down in the 3rd Tyson Empey tied the game for the Moose. Ben King deflected the Elias Salomonsson shot but it hit crossbar but Empey was there to bury the loose puck to make it 2-2 with under 5 to go in the final frame.

Thomas Milic with the nice glove save in OT to give his Moose team a chance to get two points in this game.

And since you’ve read the headline you know they did get two as the captain Dominic Toninato won it for the Moose in OT as they pick up their third win in four games on this road trip. That’s the second straight game the captain ended the game for his team in overtime as he buried his own rebound for the victory.

First time Elias Salomonsson had a hat trick of assists in an AHL game.

Multi-point game:

Elias Salomonsson 3A
Dominic Toninato 1G 1A
