Exciting game in Belleville but the Manitoba Moose fall short as the Sens take it 5-3

Recap of the game.

While the Moose chances to qualify for the post-season aren’t very high getting three wins in the first four games of this road trip has at least put them within sniffing distance of the IceHogs who hold down the fifth and final spot. But they can’t keep splitting series. And after a big comeback win in Belleville on Wednesday they were looking for the two-game sweep this evening.

Lineup news:

Kaapo Kahkonen got the net (Thomas Milic was sent back to ECHL today). On D Dawson Barteuax was in for Dylan Anhorn.

Lines & D pairs:

Shaw– Toninato –AJF
Golder – Lambert – Wagner
Suess – King – Empey
Liwiski – Zhilkin – Chyzowski

Sautner – Salomonsson
Phillips – Lundmark
Barteaux – Bauer

Kahkonen

Notable:

The Moose opened the scoring as AJF got his 7th of the season which was a power play goal. Assists to the two guys who lead the team in that category being Brad Lambert (21) and Elias Salomonsson (16).

To start the middle frame the Moose had a full 5 on 3. AJF had two chances and then Brad Lambert had a really good one with Dominic Toninato screening in front. They had some looks but could not beat Sens goalie Malcom Subban.

After finding themselves trailing for the first time in the 2nd the Moose tied the game 2-2 courtesy of Ryan Chyzowski’s first goal in antlers as he finds some open space and finishes off a pass from Mark Liwiski.

Seconds after Belleville made it 4-2 Moose goalie Kaapo Kahkonen had to make a big stop to prevent it from becoming a three goal deficit. Which may provide big because…seconds later Moose captain Dominic Toninato cut the deficit to one goal as he got his 12th of the season.

And off the ensuing faceoff Carson Golder with a GLORIOUS chance to tie the game on a breakaway after a Keystone Cops miscue but Sens goalie Malcolm Subban with the game saving stop.

With the goalie pulled play-by-play voice Daniel Fink yelled out “Great save Salomonsson. Are you kidding me!”  Of course the save in question wasn’t made by a goalie. It was Jets D prospect Elias Salomonsson who made the street hockey like save with his team down by a goal and protecting the empty net.

After some fisticuffs, the Moose were a man short & the Sens put the puck into the empty net. They took it 5-3 to earn the split with Manitoba in Belleville. Moose are 3-2-0 so far with one road game to go.
