Evening Delight: Cause this is thriller, thriller night!

  • If Bob Gainey finds the right dancing partner, the Canadiens could make some noise on home ice this weekend when the NHL Draft lands in Montreal.
  • Darcy Regier has spent the past two months assessing how to make the Buffalo Sabres competitive again, and concluded that many of the answers are already on the team.
  • The one team in town that drafts well, no longer needs to do so. The Washington Capitals enter Friday’s NHL draft with their lowest overall selection (24th) in eight years and fewest picks since 2005.
  • Craig Leipold said Wild fans expecting a blockbuster trade at the NHL draft this weekend likely will be disappointed.  The Wild’s best shot at making a splash might be to pick a native son.
  • What will the Rangers do?  Will they shed a big contract and trade Scott Gomez? Can they somehow swing a deal for Ottawa sniper Dany Heatley? Will they move up from the 19th pick in today’s draft at Bell Centre? Will they stay put and take a forward, or maybe acquire a defenseman if they package one of their prospects?
  • E.J. McGuire, the director of NHL Central Scouting, is in a unique position to moderate the debate on the merits of London Knights centre John Tavares and Modo defenceman Victor Hedman.
  • Flyers end 16-year relationship with Reggie Lemlin.
  • When Cory Clouston was named coach of the Ottawa Senators, he demanded of Dany Heatley the same thing that was demanded of all the Senators players: To work hard in games and at practice and to be a good teammate.
  • It means they have had some success It’s a nice problem for the Blackhawks to have, picking 28th in the first round of this weekend’s NHL draft in Montreal.
  • There will not be a second NHL outdoor game in Calgary on January 1, 2010.

Working hard on a daily basis to provide the latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news for our readers and listeners. I also appear on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show every Saturday on our YouTube channel as well as the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show after every single Jets game. And I occasionally jump in the play-by-play booth at Canada Life to provide colour analysis during Manitoba Moose games.
