Recap of the 2023-24 season for Simon Lundmark:
Certain prospects tends to fly under the radar for fans because they aren’t the flashiest or they don’t put up huge points and that seems to be the case with Jets 2019 2nd rounder Simon Lundmark who just completed his third season in Manitoba with the Moose. His play and demeanor conjure up a Dylan DeMelo type of Dman.
In early December I had spoken to him about adding a bit more physicality to his game and he demonstrated that with this check in a game against the Icehogs. Following that game Moose assistant coach Eric Dubois spoke about his ability to win 50-50 battles.
He got his first goal of the season in late January and would finish the campaign with a career high of five goals. He matched his career high for points with 17 and played in a career high 67 games of the 72 Manitoba played this season. If I had to guess I’d say that when Ville Heinola was in the lineup for his 41 games with the Moose, the two 2019 draft picks were often paired up together.
Clearly the sentiment expressed by the coaching staff in early December continued throughout the season based on comments made by head coach Mark Morrison during his end of season media availability.
He is an RFA this summer and will need a new contract.
We spoke with him about the past season with the Moose, his season, his focus for next season, what he learned about his game and more.
