Stumpel was given his current contract in part because he mentored forward Rostislav Olesz, but Martin no longer considers Stumpel a positive influence.

“I want to make sure we have people in the dressing room with the right attitude for our new coach,” Martin said. “We’re going in a different direction.”

Stumpel isn’t close to the player he once was, and if what Martin is hinting at is true, then it makes sense to send the veteran on his way. To be honest, it might have been the right decision to send him on his way regardless of his attitude.
