DiVincentiis shines, but Wranglers complete comeback to defeat Moose 3–2 in shootout

The Moose kicked off the homestand with a big 5-1 win over the Wranglers on Saturday and were looking to complete the sweep today over Calgary. Jets prospect Brad Lambert was a late scratch ahead of the game two days ago due to illness.

Lineup news:

Still no Brad Lambert who remains out of the lineup with an illness. Only change was a goalie swap.

Moose lineup:

Shaw – Gustafsson- Duehr
JAD – Zhilkin – Fagemo
Julien – Ford – Di Giuseppe
Barlow– Yager – Chibrikov

Heinola – Salomonsson
Phillips – Clague
Sautner – Bauer

DiVincentiis

Notable:

Little seeing eye shot by Ville Heinola opened the scoring for the Moose this afternoon. Captain Mason Shaw’s point streak at nine games (6G 4A) with the primary assist. Walker Duehr with the screen in front and David Gustafsson won the faceoff and is up to 21 assists (most on team).

Jets prospect Colby Barlow was left looking skyward after he had a chance to add to the Moose lead late in the 1st.

There was some exchanging of pleasantries between the Moose and Wranglers at the end of the 1st. Was interested to see if it carried over but it did not.

Wranglers thought they had tied it up early in the 2nd period but goal called off by the ref. He saw the Calgary forward push the Manitoba defender into Moose goalie Domenic DiVincentiis.

DOMENIC DIVINCENTIIS….how?

“Put the puck on net and good things happen”. Probably what Ville Heinola was thinking as he picks up his second point of the afternoon following the David Gustafsson deflection (his second point of the game as well). It put the Moose up 2-0.

Wranglers first team to crack the Moose power play in 18 chances as they had killed the previous 17. But Calgary on the board with this one on the PP.

Calgary continued to attack into the final frame looking for the equalizer.

Cochrane, AB vs Yorkton, SK after Tyrel Bauer finished his check which resulted in he and Turner Ottenberit having a chat. Of course given they were teammates with the Thunderbirds maybe just reminiscing about good times in Seattle.

This felt inevitable as Calgary tied the game with 4:19 left in the 3rd. Rory Kerins digs out the loose puck and tied the game with his second of this contest. The visitors had outshot the home team 30-16 since the 2nd period.

Both teams had a chance to win it in extra time as late in OT it was Nikita Chibrikov who fired it off the post.

Game went to the shootout where Calgary completed the comeback scoring the only goal of it to win it 3-2.

Goalie Domenic DiVincentiis was excellent in this one making 38 saves on 40 shots.

Despite the loss the Moose gained a point in the standings which gives them a two point edge over the Stars (with three games in hand) for 3rd spot in the Central. They are now 23-17-3-1 on the season.
