The Jets won their third game in a row on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over the Rangers in New York as they attempt to keep pace with the Predators in the central division. The win appeared to come at a high cost however when the team lost centre Mark Scheifele to an upper-body injury in the 2nd period (although the injury itself happened in the 1st period when he collided with Blake Wheeler). He was seen on the bench testing it out and appeared to be in some discomfort.
After the 2nd intermission the team announced that he was done for the night. Following the game the Jets bench boss didn’t have much of an update aside from indicating that it was not related to the previous upper-body injury Scheifele suffered that kept him out of the lineup for 16 games.
Winnipeg had the day off today, ahead of their third game on this six-game road trip tomorrow in New Jersey when they take on the Devils, so no official team updates were expected.
However, Darren Dreger of TSN tweeted the following:
While Jets fans aren’t happy seeing 55 miss any time, the news that the early indications are it isn’t serious, has to have them breathing a sigh of relief. Since he returned from his previous upper-body injury Scheifele has 13 points in 12 games and the team had eight wins and four losses.
We can expect a more in-depth report following tomorrow’s skate in Newark.
