Daily Faceoff Report | Winnipeg Jets to interview Craig Berube for head coaching vacancy

Another name in the mix to be the next bench boss in Winnipeg.

The head coaching search began in Winnipeg last week when former head coach Rick Bowness announced his retirement after almost 40 years on the bench. The presumptive favorite to replace him is current associate coach Scott Arniel but there was an expectation the Jets would cast a wide net.

From Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff today:

“Sounds like Craig Berube is scheduled to be in Winnipeg today to interview with #gojetsgo. After significant time spent with #LeafsForever, #njdevils and #goSENSgo, he is the most in-demand coach this hiring cycle. Could he steer #nhljets away from Scott Arniel?”

After playing more than 1000 games in the NHL he went to work behind the bench first in the AHL with the Philadelphia Phantoms and then in the NHL with the parent Flyers club. Berube went back to the AHL for one season as head coach in Chicago of the Wolves in 2016-17 before jumping back to the NHL as an associate in St. Louis for two seasons before becoming their head coach in 2018-19. That was the year Jets fans will recall his club knocked Winnipeg out of the first round on their Cinderella run to the Stanley Cup.

In total he spent five seasons as head coach of the Blues before he was let go.
