Breaking News: Jay Bouwmeester has agreed to terms with the Calgary Flames.

From TSN.ca:

Jay Bouwmeester has agreed to terms with the Calgary Flames.

Bouwmeester avoids unrestricted free agency, agreeing to a 5 year deal worth $6.6 million per year against the salary cap.

The Flames acquired the rights of the 25-year old defenceman on Saturday at the NHL Draft.

“Jay is one of the most complete defenseman in the game, and we are very pleased to have reached an agreement that will make him an important component of the Calgary Flames success,” said Sutter. “We identified Jay as the priority player where we were going to focus our money. We wanted an opportunity a few days in advance of the deadline, and that’s why we made the move we did this past weekend.”

As Richard said in his Draft Weekend Review, Darryl Sutter was a man only thinking of all things Flames and he must be happy that he got this deal done.  Bouwmeester solidifies the Flames backend.  With Kippur in net, the current Flames defensive core and Brent Sutter behind the bench will anyone be able to score on Calgary next season?

Impressively the Flames already have Bouwmeester on the team roster on the Flames web site.
