Auston Matthews beats out Winnipeg Jets Patrik Laine for Calder Trophy

Leafs rookie Auston Matthews won the Calder Trophy for rookie of the year beating out his chief rival Patrik Laine.

While it looked like it would be a very close race all season long the eight games that Laine lost mid season due to a concussion derailed his rather impressive pace.  Despite this both rookies had incredibly impressive seasons:

Auston Matthews: 82 games 40 goals 29 assists for 69 points.

Patrik Laine:  73 games 36 goals 28 assists for 64 points.

This is going to be a fun rivalry to watch.  And they start quickly again in 2017-18 with the Jets hosting the Leafs to open the season.
