According to Craig Custance of The Sporting News, Ondrej Pavelec has rejected his assignment to the AHL. Pavelec is arguably better than Johan Hedberg who was re-signed over the off-season, so I’m sure his anger was built up over the summer.
There was no truth to the rumors that the NHL was watching any Ducks/Leafs transactions closely. Makes sense, since there doesn’t seem to be any need to worry.
Mikael Backlund is returning to Sweden, as the Flames cut three more players today. Backlund just didn’t earn a spot on the team and will return next season with increased expectations.
Rod Brind’Amour has been cleared to play by the Hurricanes doctors. He will be ready to roll for the regular season opener next week.
The Senators and Daniel Alfredsson’s agent met today to discuss a contract extension. Sounds like a deal is just a matter of time.
