Just last night Pierre LeBrun on TSN’s Insider Trading was outlining the situation between the Winnipeg Jets and restricted free agent Pierre-Luc Dubois. I can’t really say that it was breaking news because nobody is really surprised by the revelations from the insider that the RFA’s agent “Pat Brisson has informed the Winnipeg Jets that his client isn’t inclined to sign an extension this summer, not even a one-year bridge”.

Since that time tongues have been wagging on various shows across Canada talking about the situation in Winnipeg. Following Insider Trading it was Dave Poulin and Jay Onrait discussing it on The Much Later After Show (watch here), followed today by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek on The Jeff Marek Show (watch here) as well as Sportsnet’s Sean Reynolds joining Nick Kypreos and Justin Bourne on Kyper and Bourne to add his thoughts on the situation (watch here). And I am sure there are plenty I’ve missed.
The scribes also used some ink on this topic and that is what we found noteworthy courtesy of The Athletic’s Arpon Basu and Marc Antoine Godin who wrote a column entitled ‘What we’re hearing on the Canadiens, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Carter Hart’ which was published this afternoon (read it here although it is behind a paywall). The pair reveal that:
– Cheveldayoff was notified on Tuesday by Pat Brisson that Dubois wouldn’t be signing
– Dubois will submit a list of teams he would sign with long-term (5 or 6)
– Brisson would begin talking to teams
– it would be a sign-and-trade situation (similar to Tkachuk).

Given the Jets could have been backed into an even smaller corner by the RFA centre, the news that there will be five or six teams he would consider potentially gives them a little more leeway in terms of the return they could receive.
