On Saturday night the Jets made a big reduction from their training camp roster reducing it by 10 players (nine were reassigned and one was released from his PTO) which gave their AHL club the Manitoba Moose a big boost ahead of today’s first day (off ice testing) of their training camp.
We expected another crop of players to be placed on waivers sometime today for purposes of assignment to the Moose and that happened this morning as they assigned five players including Jansen Harkins who had himself an excellent season with Manitoba when he cleared waivers last season. He also had two goals during this pre-season for Winnipeg. If he and the others all pass through waivers it will give the Moose quite the forward crop to start their season.
This brings the Jets training camp roster down to 35 players.
Of these 35 players, 28 of them are from yesterday’s group 1 (although all players listed didn’t skate):
Forwards (16): Vlad Namestnikov, Alex Iafallo, Gabriel Vilardi, Rasmus Kupari, Adam Lowry, David Gustafsson, Mason Appleton, Nikolaj Ehlers, Jeffrey Viel, Morgan Barron, Mark Scheifele, Nino Niederreiter, Parker Ford, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Kyle Connor and Cole Perfetti.
Defence (9): Dylan DeMelo, Neal Pionk, Brenden Dillon, Ville Heinola, Josh Morrissey, Declan Chisholm, Dylan Samberg, Logan Stanley and Nate Schmidt.
Goalies (3): Connor Hellebuyck, Laurent Brossoit and Collin Delia
The only two players remaining from the second group are Elias Salomonsson and Chaz Lucius. We know that Salomonsson was dealing with an injury.
Injured/Illness (5): Colby Barlow, Henri Nikkanen, Danny Zhilkin, Wyatt Bongiovanni and Kyle Capobianco.
The Jets will eventually need to get this 35 down to 23 to start the regular season.
