Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  Plenty of questions abound for today afternoon contest against the Kings (reminder it is a 1 pm start time) as the Jets had the day off yesterday and obviously won’t skate today so we won’t know if there are any injuries and/or changes to the lineup from Friday’s OT loss in Colorado.  Stick with illegalcurve.com for the latest news and on social media including Twitter|Facebook |Instagram for all the pre and post game news.

Note II:  The Moose have lost their second game in a row as they got swept by the Gulls losing last night 6-3 in San Diego.  Ondrej Pavelec allowed all six goals while Chase De Leo scored a pair of goals in the losing cause.  Manitoba will practice in San Diego before making their way to Bakersfield.  Next game is a Wednesday morning school day game (10:30 am in California/12:30 pm in Winnipeg).

Jets news:

Ottawa Sun:  Garrioch’s Sunday Column.  Jacob Trouba talk in the Off the Glass segment of the column.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Everything’s Jake with Trouba.  (Paywall).  Jason provides his thoughts on the Trouba performance.

Winnipeg Sun:  Five keys to a Jets win over Kings.  Ted sets up five keys for a win including: 1) Flushing out the Avs loss. 2) Another new look to the Jets 3) Taking advantage of Kings injuries. 4) Afternoon blues. 5) Trouba’s welcome home from the fans and Ted’s Big Matchup is – Scheifele and Laine vs. Doughty and Forbort.

Winnipeg Sun:  Josh Morrissey steps up to the challenge.  I watched quite a bit of Josh Morrissey last season with the Moose and I’m really not surprised that he has been able to make the jump to the NHL as smoothly as he has.

Winnipeg Sun:  Trouba impresses in return to Jets lineup.  When you add Trouba to the mix of Byfuglien, Myers, Enstrom and Morrissey it really does elevate this Winnipeg defence group.  Now that Trouba can see what he could be a part of you have to wonder if it changes his opinion of what could be built in Winnipeg with his contribution.

L.A. Times:  Kings could be without injured Anze Kopitar and Jeff Zatkoff against the Jets.  Get some knowledge about the Jets opposition from team beat writer Lisa Dillman.

Illegal Curve:  Quinton Howden recalled; Mathieu Perreault placed on IR.  Since the Jets didn’t have a practice on Saturday there isn’t any word as to whether this was done to offset an injury that may have occurred on Friday or whether it was simply precautionary.  I looked at the Jets players shifts and didn’t really notice (aside from Tyler Myers) anyone take any significant time off aside from Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers.

Jets audio:

TSN 1050:  TSN Hockey Analytics.  TSN Fantasy Sports Expert Scott Cullen gives his weekly Fantasy Hockey Heroes and Zeroes and the biggest stories from this week in the NHL.  No surprise that he starts off with the line of Nikolaj Ehlers-Mark Scheifele-Patrik Laine as the best of the week. (From 0:00 till 1:57).  Trouba talk (begins 7:18 runs to 9:03).

Moose news:

Official Manitoba site:  Moose swept out of San Diego by the Gulls 6-3.  It wasn’t a very good loss as the Moose now have a two game losing streak to start the trip in Californi.
