Latest Winnipeg Jets news.

Note:  Tune into the Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN 1290 Winnipeg from 9 am until 12 noon today as we discuss the World Cup of Hockey, Jets training camp and the NHL.  Guests include Paul Wiecek (Winnipeg Free Press), Marty Biron (Former NHL goalie and current analyst with TSN), Jon Rosen (Kings insider for Fox Sports West) and Kristen Odland (Flames beat reporter for Postmedia).  To listen click here.

Note II:  Fan Fest kicks off as we hit day 2 of Jets training camp going from 8 am until 3 pm (More details about the festivities here).  In case you missed it here is the full training camp schedule and a list of the 60 players who are in attendance.

Afternoon Jets links:

Global News:  Nothing stands between a fan and their Winnipeg Jets.  While we were on air this AM, Jets fans went to the IcePlex (despite the rain) to check out the Fan Fest.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  World Cup eliminations send Jets to camp.  Getting guys like Wheeler, Byfuglien, Scheifele and Laine back in better than start of training camp form could be a nice benefit for the squad.

Winnipeg Sun:  Future teammates looking forward to Finnish arrival.  It really is quite amazing how everyone is talking about Laine and forgetting the kid who ripped up the NCAA.  Really may benefit Kyle Connor in the long run as the entire room was chatting about the Finnish phenom.

Winnipeg Sun:  Ken’s Notebook.  Plenty in here including: Myers back to full strength, Howden at a loss for words, Copp ready for battle, World Cup guys get a breather, November game times moved.

Winnipeg Sun:  Perreault pumped to stick around.  Fans (and his teammates) love what #85 brings to this team.  Fans will especially like this line “I see myself winning a championship here” at the end of the article.

Perreault heads up

Winnipeg Free Press: Petan vows to put himself back in the Jets’ picture.  (Paywall).  There seems to be a lot of that “take someones spot” mentality on the team in advance of the season starting.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Myers raring to go.  (Paywall).  He really seemed happy with the state of his health and ready to get the season underway with the crop of young guns who will be joining the Jets this season.

NHL.com:  Camp bolstered by return of World Cup players.  Getting players back in game shape and uninjured is a huge bonus for the Jets.

NHL.com:  Little & Laine? Veteran excited about the possibility.  You could see the veteran centre liked the idea of playing with a dynamic player like Laine but he also acknowledged that you never know who your linemates are until the coach sets them.

Global News:  Jets open training camp with vigorous on-ice testing.  The players were certainly put through the ringer today with the workouts on the ice.

CBC:  Players to watch as Jets start training camp.  Plenty of questions as we head into Jets camp including whether Trouba will be at camp, coach Maurice still at World Cup of Hockey, other missing Jets World Cup players, Laine, Ehlers, Connor/Roslovic, older veterans being in a tough battle and a look at who might be the top goaltender.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  The Big Show.  Color analyst Shane Hnidy joined the guys on the first day of Winnipeg Jets training camp to preview the goalie battle, Jacob Trouba’s potential return to the club and why Joel Armia could be the surprise player entering the season.

Moose audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  Winnipeg-born Scott Glennie joins the guys to discuss getting a second chance in a PTO with the Manitoba Moose. Glennie admits to making mistakes with the Dallas Stars organization after being drafted high in the 2009 draft, and looks forward to getting back to hockey after an extended time away due to injury.
