Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets and Moose news and audio.

Jets news:

Sportsnet:  Offer sheet or not, what is Jacob Trouba’s ceiling?  Agree or disagree with this assessment of the Jets young defender?

CSN New England:  A deal brewin?  In case you missed it late last night there were some rumblings from out East that the Bruins may offer sheet Jets RFA Jacob Trouba.  Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff’s pre-draft comments spoke about his team’s RFAs potential receiving an offer sheet and he wasn’t too concerned.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Laine’s low-key landing shows how much has changed since Jets 1.0.  (Paywall).  Is it a problem if a team seeks to shelter a young prospect?  Should he be as accessible as any other player?  With social media being what it is today I don’t think the guys who were in charge of looking after Hull or Hawerchuk had quite the same situation as what a player today would be exposed to.

ESPN:  Colorful Patrik Laine has what it takes to separate from the crowd.  This is in keeping with what I was hearing from Finnish media throughout the draft.  Winnipeg got themselves a special player with the second overall pick.

Patrik Laine raised fist

Illegal Curve:  Jets 2016 Development Camp.  Starting Sunday fans in Winnipeg can check out a bunch of the prospects at the development camp at the MTS IcePlex.  Times and rosters are included in the post.  The only negative is that second overall pick Patrik Laine is recovering from minor surgery and won’t be on the ice next week.

Illegal Curve:  An update on Jets defenceman Tyler Myers rehab from knee and hip surgery.  Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff provided an update on the status of Myers at the draft in Buffalo.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  The Big Show.  Play-by-play man Paul Edmonds joined the Big Show for an NHL talk including Eric Lindros’ hall of fame induction, Patrik Laine joining Winnipeg and why the Jets will be in play for free agent winger Kyle Okposo.

Moose news:

Official Manitoba site:  It’s all about the work for Josh Morrissey.  Fans are impatient for prospects to have an immediate impact but as we’ve seen with numerous players it can take some time for them to be properly developed before they are prepared to handle the rigors of the NHL.
