Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets news.

Note:  The Jets are going to try and keep the good feelings going tonight at the MTS Centre as they take on the Red Wings.  Detroit played and lost last night in St. Paul 3-1 (Listen to the post-game from a less than pleased Wings coach Jeff Blashill).  We will be covering the game and as always stay tuned to illegalcurve.com and on social media including Twitter| Facebook | Instagram for pre and post game news.

Jets news:

Sportsnet:  30 Thoughts.  For Winnipeg talk head to numbers 25 (Cheveldayoff quote) and 26 (zone entries against Jets).

Winnipeg Free Press:  Tyler Myers shows he’s the Jets’ top defenceman.  (Paywall).   Plenty of praise is being heaped on the extremely talented Myers.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Paul Maurice is not ready to sell his team short.  (Paywall).  When Jeff queried the bench boss about the possibility he wasn’t prepared to answer the question…yet.  The coach clearly understands the reality of coaching in the NHL but isn’t ready to discuss the concept of his team being a seller until that becomes a reality.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets don’t have easy road ahead.  (Paywall).  It is going to be a long and difficult climb as the Jets have once again put themselves into a deep hole in the rough and tumble Central Division.  Might they be hoping to clone their effort from Sunday and continue their Eastern Conference domination (10-4-2 this season).

Winnipeg Sun: Columnist earns bear hug as Jets hope to hit post-Christmas reset button.  I feel fortunate to have been in the locker room yesterday and witnessed the bear hug live.  It was quite the moment.  Good column from Paul about the Jets commitment to defence and I laughed out loud to the end of the article.

Winnipeg Sun:  Byfuglien leaves practice early.  It was at roughly the mid point of the skate yesterday when I noticed that big #33 was no longer on the ice for the Jets.  Coach Maurice seemed to dismiss any concern saying “he will be fine for tomorrow. Something was nagging him.”.

Illegal Curve:  Jets Practice Report.  A look at the lines that the Jets used in practice yesterday as well as some observations during the skate.  Audio from Andrew Ladd and Adam Lowry.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  Matt Halischuk discusses his time with the Jets and farm team Manitoba Moose, and looks back on scoring the overtime gold medal-winning goal in the 2008 World Juniors.

TSN 1040 Vancouver:  Sekeres and Price Show.  Blake Price talks with Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff during the 2nd intermission of Canada’s game vs. Denmark.

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice scrum.  On Byfuglien’s absence from practice mid way through it.  On the performance of Tyler Myers.  Whose idea was the hug?  On the renewed commitment to defence.  Does the trade deadline factor in to his thought process at all? If this team is a selling team at the deadline what does that do to a room?  Do they need goalies to steal games?  Taking advantage of team’s who play the Wild the night before.
