Note: It is the first time since the end of November that the Jets have fallen out of a playoff spot as a result of a tough regulation loss in Sunrise last night coupled with the Kings winning in Vancouver. The Jets have little time to lick their wounds as they have to prepare for a date on Saturday night with the red hot (7-2-1 in last 10) Tampa Bay Lightning.
Games of significance last night: Kings won. Canucks lost. Sharks won.
Games of significance tonight: Wild (vs. Ducks). Flames (vs. Leafs).
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: In developing news. There will be plenty of hockey in this city for years to come. Tim broke the news and brings you up to speed on the latest AHL to Winnipeg news.
Winnipeg Free Press: Stafford’s proficiency obvious. He showed some good hand eye coordination on the goal and seems to be fitting into the Jets fold.
Winnipeg Free Press: Feeble firepower costs Jets. No Little, Perreault and Byfuglien is sure becoming noticeable as the Jets cannot seem to sustain much in the offensive zone these days.
Winnipeg Sun: Panthers put the bite on Jets. Despite all the Jets fans making it feel like the MTS Centre it wasn’t enough to give Winnipeg the edge in South Florida.
CBC: Panthers surprise Jets with late push. Add it to the list of losses we may be talking about if the Jets fall short in their quest for the playoffs.
Miami Herald: Panthers beat Jets, keep pace with Bruins. Read a recap of the game from a Panthers beat writer.
Sportsnet: MacKenzie scores doing Superman impression (video). While MacKenzie showed some good dexterity on the diving redirect, coach Maurice may have a coronary when he watches the replay. It seemed like a comedy of errors: 1) Harrison gets caught in no mans land 2) Pardy was slow to make contact with Bolland who makes an improbable pass 3) which catches Peluso flat footed (and fails to recognize that MacKenzie is behind him) and 4) puck gets past Hutchinson who seemed ready for the redirect but it still managed to get past him.
Illegal Curve: AHL Board of Governors approve relocation of the IceCaps to Winnipeg. The day may have ended poorly for Jets fans but mid day many were excited by the AHL announcing that a franchise would be relocated to Winnipeg. Fans seemed quite happy at the prospect of watching Jets draft picks developing On the Farm. Only thing remaining behind in St. John’s would be the name IceCaps although we still don’t know what the franchise will be called here.
Panthers 4 Jets 2:
Illegal Curve: Tyler Myers leaves game in 2nd period. He tried to return at the start of the 3rd but after a quick skate he quickly returned to the dressing room and it was announced he would not return with what the team described as an upper body injury.
Illegal Curve: Coach Maurice post-game (audio). How did he see that play out? Did they have enough quality chances against Ellis? Why are they challenged to score? Update on Myers?
Jets audio:
Illegal Curve: Kevin Cheveldayoff conference call on relocation of AHL team to Winnipeg. The Jets GM spent about twenty minutes with the media talking about the move.
TSN 1290 Winnipeg: The Rona Roundtable. Jets prospect and current Halifax Mooseheads Nikolaj Ehlers talks about being named Player of the Week in the CHL.
