Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The first of four important home contests goes tonight as the Jets face off against the Dallas Stars.  Dallas got pounded by the Minnesota Wild 6-2 on Sunday and are desperate for a win to stay in the race for the post season.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Quick, call Harbour Patrol, Jets sinking through ice.  The team hasn’t fallen completely into the lake and there is still plenty of hockey left to play, but they do need to get this turned around quickly if they want to play meaningful hockey in April.

Winnipeg Free Press:  A bit frazzled over Frolik.  Fans have to be a bit concerned at the prospect of Frolik remaining unsigned which means he could walk this summer for nothing.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Chiarot out of Jets’ lineup for six weeks after surgery on his hand.  Another tough loss for the team as they lost the young defenceman for essentially the remainder of the regular season.

Winnipeg Sun:  Feeling the heat.  Paul writes about the challenge the Jets are facing as crunch time begins.  One thing we know is that these next four games at the MTS Centre will be critical in the playoff push.

NHL.com:  Maurice not expecting reinforcements at deadline.  Then the Jets bench boss is likely going to have to start playing his 4th line a little more.  The 1st line looked gassed against the Leafs and if this team truly wants to compete you have to be able to roll all four lines.  Patrick writes that the coach isn’t expecting any reinforcements.

Sportsnet:  Jets still in wild-card position despite troubles.  Sounds like the Jets captain will continue to embrace the undergdog role despite currently sitting in a playoff spot as he attempts to get the team back on track and into the playoffs for the first time since move back to Winnipeg.

Illegal Curve:  Eric O’Dell recalled from St. John’s IceCaps.  Fans are happy to finally see O’Dell being called up to perhaps get his chance with the big club as the team is dealing with the latest round of injuries.

Hockey’s Future: Winnipeg Jets Top 20 has a wealth of international talent.  A look at the top 20 prospects in the organization.

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice scrum from IcePlex.  Update on Ben Chiarot.  On belief in his system.  Is he still planning on keeping Byfuglien as a forward.  Wheeler’s status.  Is he concerned with his top players having any gas left in the tank?  What will it be like having nine straight games at home?  More on Blake Wheeler.  With Ben out, how does that impact Byfuglien’s status.  Have either of the goalies solidified the #1 spot?  Does he get more involved as they get closer to trade deadline?  Best part of the Kane trade is that it gives the organization a current player and future.  What has happened to Michael Hutchinson’s game?

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Rona Roundtable.  Shane Hnidy discusses the Jets loss to Toronto, the schedule ahead and Ben Chiarot’s injury.

TSN 1050 Toronto:  Mike Richards in the Morning.  TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger joins Mike and Dave to chat on the state of the Leafs and who they might pursue come trade deadline.  Mentions Burmistrov as trade bait around the five minute mark of the interview.

Stars news:

Dallas Morning News:  Desperate for wins, can Stars utilize power play advantage against Jets?  Dallas beat writer Mike Heika previews the action.
