Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | November 6, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage and all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: Hard to draw too many conclusions from last night’s 6-2 win over the Canucks, as it’s pretty evident that Vancouver is not a very good hockey team. At the same time, Winnipeg still needed to put together a complete game against them, and they did just that. We also saw Dawson Mercer score his first goal as a Jet, Viggo Björck record his first NHL point and the CHL line of Mercer, Cole Perfetti and Brayden Yager start to develop some chemistry. The Jets were originally scheduled to practice today, but they’ll instead take the day off before returning to the ice tomorrow.

Note II: The Moose welcome the defending Calder Cup champion Toronto Marlies to town tonight for their first game of the season against a non-Central Division opponent. The two teams enter the contest with similar records, goals for and against totals, and power-play numbers. The biggest difference comes on the penalty kill, where Toronto ranks 29th overall while Manitoba sits 15th. Puck drop is set for 7 PM CDT.

Note III: Jets prospect Zach Wooten (2026 4th round) scored his third goal of the season to tie the game for Wisconsin. The freshman forward is off to a solid start with three goals and three assists for six points in seven games with the Badgers.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Mercer nets first as Jets cruise past Canucks 6-2 for second straight win.  That was a massive goal for him although you can see him getting better and better each game, regardless of whether he scored or not. But at same time when you average 20+ goals per season and have been shutout through your first 17 that can wear on you.
