Notable:
Elias Salomonsson, who was supposed to play in this game was ill, which meant the Jets went with 12/6 and Tyrel Bauer, who was slated to play at forward, went back on D.
Tyrel Bauer elicited the biggest cheers (by far) from the Winnipeg crowd as he was announced in the starting lineup.
Winnipeg did something they don’t do very often. They scored the first goal. They also scored it on the power play. Alex Iafallo with a nifty tip of a Hadyn Fleury shot.
And before fans sat down after celebrating the first goal, the Jets scored a second goal. Cole Koepke made it 2-0 with his second of the season.
The Jets were up 2-0 and outshooting the Canucks 7-0 but then the Canucks scored on their first shot.
Neal Pionk was recognized for playing in his 600th NHL game during the road trip. He also played his 500th game in a Jets jersey while away from Winnipeg. They also acknowledged Captain Adam Lowry for getting his 300th point in the NHL. It was a memorable one as it was the primary assist on the OT GWG for the Miracle in Montreal.
Dawson Mercer got his first goal of the season and his first as a member of the Jets. You could see he was pumped up. Great pass by Cole Perfetti who did some trickery behind the net before making the pass. And the CHL line looking good in their first game together. That would stand as the GWG.
The entire sequence on the fourth Jets goal was fantastic. It doesn’t even include the wizardry that Mark Scheifele did at blueline to get a pass ahead to Gabriel Vilardi. Neal Pionk’s 4th from Connor & Vilardi to make it 4-1 for Winnipeg. Also what a move by 81. He really has been next level.
Viggo Björck has his first NHL point. And the Jets have a 5-1 lead. Mark Scheifele has his third. And the crowd in Winnipeg shows Viggo Björck some love as he is announced for getting his first NHL point.
Mario Ferraro scored his second goal of the season to ensure that the Jets wouldn’t blow a four goal lead in the 3rd by making it a five goal lead.
The Jets would give up one more but they cruise to a 6-2 victory and get their second straight victory.
Multi Point Game:
Dawson Mercer 1G 1A
Mark Scheifele 1G 1A
