During his introductory press conference on Saturday, Connor Hellebuyck was asked if he had a message for Jets fans. He indicated he had plenty to say, including “I hope they know I care about them,” but wanted to wait until after the Heritage Classic out of respect for the team and the weekend’s celebration of hockey.
Today, Hellebuyck took part in his first official practice with his new Devils teammates in New Jersey. Following the skate, he was asked whether, with Heritage Classic weekend now in the rearview mirror, he was ready to share that message with Jets fans.
“No, I’m not ready yet. The time will be right. Let them enjoy the week and we’ll see where we go from there.”

Connor Hellebuyck still not ready to share his Winnipeg Jets thoughts post Heritage Classic.
My read: he’s saving it for return trip on Nov 10 when NJD play in Wpg. https://t.co/BojqfLduy9

The final question of his media availability dealt specifically with the reasons behind his trade request out of Winnipeg. Once again, Hellebuyck wasn’t prepared to elaborate.
“I don’t want to get into that right now. We can worry about that later.”

Connor Hellebuyck still isn’t ready to discuss what led to his request for a trade out of Winnipeg.

My read is that Hellebuyck knows he’ll eventually have to address both topics, and perhaps he’s waiting until November 10th, when his new Devils teammates visit Winnipeg for their only game in Manitoba this season.
